HRNZ - Human Resources New Zealand

Helping shape sustainability leadership across New Zealand's HR profession.

Since 2021, I've worked alongside HRNZ as a strategic advisor, helping shape their sustainability direction through workshops, national initiatives, resource development, thought leadership, and ongoing advice to the executive team. This partnership has supported HR professionals across Aotearoa to better understand the role they play in creating positive outcomes for people, communities, and the planet.

My approach

From strategy to sector-wide impact.

Our partnership began with a simple question: What role can HR professionals play in creating a more sustainable future?

Following an initial keynote and organisation-wide workshop with the HRNZ team, I worked alongside the organisation to identify the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) most relevant to its members and the unique role HR leaders can play in driving positive change across workplaces throughout Aotearoa.

From there, my role evolved into that of an ongoing strategic advisor, supporting HRNZ to embed sustainability into its programmes, resources, events, and thought leadership. Rather than delivering one-off initiatives, we focused on building long-term capability across the profession.

Over several years, I have provided strategic advice on sustainability initiatives, collaborated on the design of HRNZ's annual HR and Sustainability Week, facilitated workshops for members, developed practical tools and resources, contributed thought leadership through the HRNZ magazine, and supported the CEO and executive team as they explored emerging opportunities at the intersection of people, leadership, and sustainability.

A partnership that continues to evolve.

Together, this work has helped position sustainability as a people issue rather than simply an environmental one, giving HR professionals practical ways to influence organisational culture, employee wellbeing, leadership, diversity, and long-term organisational resilience.

By combining strategic advice, facilitation, resource development, and thought leadership, our partnership has supported HRNZ to equip thousands of HR professionals with the knowledge, confidence, and tools to lead meaningful change within their own organisations.

A trusted advisor to the HR profession

Over the past several years, my role with HRNZ has evolved into an ongoing strategic advisory partnership.

I work closely with CEO Nick McKissack and the HRNZ team to provide advice on emerging sustainability trends, contribute to board papers and strategic discussions, write thought leadership for HRNZ's quarterly magazine, and help shape initiatives that support HR professionals across Aotearoa.

For the past three years, I've also had the privilege of judging the Sustainability category at the HRNZ Awards, New Zealand's largest celebration of excellence in the HR profession.

Along the way, HRNZ has become more than a client—they've become part of my whānau. (The supporting photo is probably proof of that)!
